Wimbledon is a fantastic place to spend the weekend – close to London, with a lovely village, great walks on the common and the iconic Wimbledon Tennis Club and Museum. Cannizaro House Hotel is the perfect base, situated in the middle of a beautiful Grade II listed park. It has just been acquired by Hotel du Vin as its 16th UK property and they’ll be investing £1 million to give it their own sense of style.
Upon our arrival, we were struck by the imposing facade and ornate Italian style columns. The name Cannizaro has been associated with Wimbledon since 1832 when Francis Platamone, Count Sant Antonio, the leaseholder, succeeded to the Sicilian dukedom of Cannizzaro. He left, but his wife lived on there and the name stuck, with a slight change to the spelling. Cannizaro House has a very rich history, dating back to 1819.
