Barbecoa Jamie Oliver – A Cathedral to Fire and Food

Jamie Oliver is omnipresent these days – when he’s not opening a new restaurant, he’s popping up on a cookery programme or helping to combat childhood obesity. One of his earliest and most successful ventures is Barbecoa, the UK’s first steakhouse restaurant. It bills itself rather cleverly as a cathedral to fire and food.

The reason being that it’s slap bang opposite St Paul’s Cathedral. Located in upmarket shopping centre, One New Change, it has panoramic views towards St Paul’s. The decor is sleek yet the ambiance is very relaxed, and there are two entrances with a small bar area downstairs and a much bigger one upstairs. If you book far enough in advance, you can nab a table right in front of the cathedral. Barbecoa holds a special place in my heart as my husband surprised me with dinner there on one of our wedding anniversaries.
